* Team with two premier grade drivers not eligible for points.

This year the BSL and Southern 32 held a joint meeting at BSCRA’s National Slot Car Center on the 2019 World Championship track. The joint meeting proved very successful. A big thank you to all those who made it such a success, particularly Christine for the catering  BSL organiser Steve Sargent, chief race controller David Sargent  assisted by Mark Witham and James Cleave.

The two series are similar in many ways, both run a  the two man team race and a individual championships.

The two team races are run for different types of car, 1/32 for the Southern series and 1/24 for the Northern one.  The Individual event it for almost identical cars, so these were run together with drivers choosing which one to run in.  At the end there was a super final for the 8 quickest overall.

Reports on the BSL racing

Racing started with the Southern 32’s Le Mans 32 team race.  In the initial planning we’d thought about trying to run all events on the Sunday.   Running one event on Saturday turned out to be a wise move, we’d never have got through all races on Sunday with such a big entry!

The race gave each team 7½ minutes on each lane, each driver taking 4 lanes which gives a total of 1 hour running time for each car.    Reliability was pretty good, the Netley   being the on;ly team unfortunate enough  to retire.  The  cars are the same as the National Club Team Championship. The four drivers from the National Club Championship winning Rockingham team split into two to produce two very fast 2 man teams.  They were challenged by the “Young Man” team, who were not eligible for points as they had two premier grade drivers.  In the end these 3 teams took the top 3 places on the road, followed by a pair of North London premier grade drivers. Next up, and third of the eligible team was the least Southern team - EBGB.s from Edinburgh.

Championship contenders VIP and Luton finished 9th and 10th on the road, which leaves the overall championship to be decided at the final round.  GT took first in the Falcon powered class to win that championship.

Sunday’s racing commenced with qualifying for the individual classes.

The first final was for Clubman drivers, Dick Gardner in his first “away” meeting top qualified, but it was Terry Foster who won by a comfortable margin ahead of a closely matched pack.

Super Production & Falcon Masters

In qualifying Greg Harwood emerged top of the Southern 32 runners with 27.89, while Brian Saunders was top Falcon with 24.89.

With 28 competitors, the finals were all 7 man races.

In Falcon Masters, Simon Francis reversed the qualifying order to win by half a lap from Brian.

In the overall final it was Gavin Wills turn to reverse the qualifying order by winning  by half a lap from Greg.

There then followed a super final with the fastest 8 overall from the BSL and Southern 32.     See the BSL web site for more

Final Round

The final 2018 Southern round is at Luton on 16 December - look forward to seeing you there!

We’d like to sort out the venues for 2019.  Please have a look at the 2019 dates on the BSCRA calendar and we will discuss which clubs would like which dates at Luton.
