Southern 32 - 2018

The series for you!

2  Sep Timaru

16 drivers, including 4 from Netley sampling the Timaru speedbowl  for the first time (Ali, Alan, Steve and Mac) turned out for the latest round of the S32 Championship.

Championship leader Will Stemman top qualified on 44.64 laps (over a lap up on last year’s tq) with championship rival Ian Barker in second.

No surprise to see Timaru drivers locking out the leading positions in the Falcon Clubman division, Mark Ellis from Geoff Halvorsen.

In the Falcon C final Ali took a clear win from Alan and Mac.

In the B final Netley Steve took a good win by just over a lap from Bill and Dick.

Although Mark had tq’d for the A final he didn’t have things all his own way as Timaru club-mate Andy gave chase but finished just over half a lap down with Geoff in third.

The overall D final resembled a Netley club-night with Steve maintaining his form from earlier and taking the win (just) from Ali and Alan and Mac.  The C final was a win for Andy with Nick just in front of Bill from Dick.  Dave Stevenson won the B final from Mark (first in FM) with Les’s super just in front of Geoff and his Falcon.

Will was always in charge of the A final and duly came in first with Stan second, Ian third and Dave H on white lane.

There were 8 team s in the Le Mans event, split between gp 12s (VIP, Norfolk and Chance, WoW and LSCC) and Falcons/Hawks (AlMacAl, Truspeed, D&D, and Mudpluggers.

Several  teams had problems at some stage – chassis breaks, loose or stripped gears or an expired Falcon in the case of Mudpluggers.

VIP cruised through the hour long race for first place (it probably wasn’t a cruise but the car looked very fast all the time!) although WoW were only 8 laps down despite a gear drama at the end of the first segment and LSCC were third just 3 laps down on WoW after a chassis breakage  First of the Falcon runners were D&D 8 laps in front of Truspeed.

Thanks to all who came and for marshalling when needed which meant we had a good finish time of around 4.30.  We hope you had a good journey home and look forward to seeing everyone next year.
