14 racers travelled some remarkable distances to race the Oaklands round of this year’s S32. Thank you to all of you for your commitment.

The individual heats got underway with Will Stemman taking early control followed by Ian Barker with plenty of close racing throughout the rest of the field. Will had the luxury of being able to sit out his last heat after posting a fantastic 40.16 in his third run, some two laps ahead of closest challenger Paul Harwood. Mark Witham was the fastest Falcon / Genesis runner with 5th overall, just a lap and a half outside of the A-final.

The 5-minute finals commenced with the Clubman first. This resulted in a win for Steve Hills from the home club’s Steve Rhodes by 0.3 of a lap.

The overall finals were as close as the heats and resulted in wins for Nick Thrower, Simon Francis and Vince Lee. Steve Rhodes took the Falcon win. The A-final developed into two separate races with Will leading Paul and Ian heading home Mick Metcalfe.

With Simon Francis electing not to contest the team race, Sandy Parker was persuaded to partner Will Stemman although both were aware that as premier grade drivers, their result would not count for championship points.

Last year’s winning team from Oaklands of Mick and Steve were expected to be at the sharp end again but hit gear trouble early on which was ultimately diagnosed as a worn can bearing. Netley and Harwood Racing both had to perform significant repairs along the way while the remainder just had to manage tyre wear.

In the end, Will and Sandy ran out convincing winners but Luton officially took first place from VIP. The only falcon powered car of Almacal powered to the finish for maximum falcon points.

The next round is at the combined BSL Finals and Southern 32 meeting at the National Centre, Corby. It will greatly help in running the meeting let me know in advance that you intend to enter.
