20 May Bournemouth

The fourth championship round was in Bournemouth.  We had an excellent day’s racing. Postponing this round from April had allowed plenty of time to make sure the new race control system was working well following the demise  of the club’s previous race control system a few weeks earlier.

Qualifying

Will Stemman top qualified with achieving a big 33 with his super,  just ahead of Simon Francis who did several good 33s with his Genesis.  Top clubman qualifier was Mark Hammond on a 31 ahead of Chris Stemman on 30

Clubman

In the clubman final Mark Hammond and Chris Stemman took 1-2 just as in qualifying.    Mac Miles took 3rd ahead of Alan Clark, reversing their qualifying order.

Super Production / Falcon Masters

In the overall C final Chris Stemman won, but Alan had a much better run to take second ahead of Mac and Ali Dent.

The B final was a little closer than the C, but still quite well spaced by the end with Paul Harwood winning from Chris Frost, Ian Fisher and Mark Hammond.

The A final provided some closer racing.  Simon Francis had established a lead ahead of Will Stemman, Will was turning quicker laps but having more offs.  In the  final minute Will was closing fast, while Ian Barker was some way behind in third ahead of Vince Lee.  Will got to within a few feet of leader Simon, only to fall off twice in the closing laps leaving Simon with an  unrepresentatively large winning margin.     Simon’s winning pace was over a lap faster than top qualifying.  This is the first time in Southern 32 that a Genesis has beten all the supers to win outright.

Le Mans 32

The team race turned into a close 3 way race between Wreakless and VIP with the group 12 powered cars and GT with Hawk power.  At half distance only 4 laps covered the top 3 teams, but the Stemmans found more speed in the final half to take the win.   Second was close with VIP being delayed by a tyre change and GT slowing at the end with lack of ground clearance. GT took second by just a couple of laps.    M&A took fourth ahead of Eces who had lost time with several pit stops. AlMacAl were sixth, suffering from lack of track experience.

Look forward to seeing you all for the next round at Roedale in June.
