18th Nov - Finals at National Centre, Corby - joint meeting with the Southern 32





















BSL 2018  British Slotracing League

This year for the silver anniversary  of the BSL the Finals were held in conjunction with the Southern 32 series to join up the country for the Finals as we did in the early days when the BSL held a southern series. The resultant entry combined with the allure of track time on the new Mega Monster was the biggest for many years with a total of 44 racers taking part at some stage. Ironically though this was the lowest ever attendance  of racers who have participated in the series attending the Finals, the distance south being a significant factor.


The large entry made for some excellent racing & both ends of the country seemed to enjoy trying each others team racing.

Congratulations to all the winners. After going close on many occasions Martin Ellis finally delivered in taking the individual series title while Steven Pearce went home with the biggest silverware haul as top junior, top newcomer & Clubman champion wrapped up in 1 trophy as well as Genesis Champion & Team winner awards!


A big thanks are due to all who helped run series events and at the Finals in particular to Christine for the catering, David who had the unenviable task of sorting spreadsheets to accommodate both series formats & together with help from Mark Witham running racing efficiently under the time pressure of such a big entry. Thanks also to all racers for their participation in the series & continuing to engender a friendly spirit.


Also a very grateful thanks to Muriel for continuing support from SCD, this time providing heavy sponsorship towards a very high quality selection of trophies – a touch I am sure Chas would be pleased to have done for the 25th anniversary.


Some of you will remember a few years ago we made a special BSL award to Chas for his services & support of the series which in hindsight I am particularly glad we did then.

For the 25th series a couple of extra Hall of Fame awards were also made to 2 very deserving recipients. Paul Shepherd received the Racing Excellence award for winning the individual title a staggering 17 times & Norman Fawcett, who has raced on every series, received the Sporting Spirit award as someone who comes to enjoy racing regardless of results with the best of humour & more than anyone demonstrates the right spirit to BSL racing.


A big part of my motivation to run the series for 25 years has been to provide a platform for new racers to hone their racing skills. For the series & slotracing generally to continue very long we badly need to see more new racers coming through the clubs which requires effort from all of us – please think about it, I am sure we all want to see this sport we love thrive into the future!
