BSL Scottish Tour 2018

Highland Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 September

9 drivers attended the Saturday round on the Highland 4.

1/32 Production

The drivers were divided into three groups of three based on the provisional championship positions. On the Highland drivers get three heats with the best run seeding the places in the finals.

In the first round of heats the early Falcon pace was set by young Steven from Fylde with over 27 laps while in super Production it was David Sergent also with 27 laps.

After the three runs, Steven was top falcon and tq on 27.87 just ahead of Richard Wallace on 27.61, these two would make it into the A Final with the best of super production runners.

In super production David Sergent was top on 27.22 to make it into the A Final just ahead of his father Steve on 27.13, and so to the finals.

The C final was a fight for first and second between Pete and Norman, a battle to be continued the following day! Pete came out on top followed closely by Norman and Paul.

The B final was a two way fight for the win between Steve Sergent and Sandy Wedderburn with Sandy holding his nerve to come home with his falcon ahead of the super production of Steve.

In the A Final, Richard opened up a gap over David and Steven. A challenge had fully been expected from young Steven but possibly his motor had gone off as he finished third two laps behind David who was also two laps behind Richard who managed his pace to maintain a good gap to the end.

There were 5 teams for the team race so all 4 lanes were used with a sit out. Stint length was 15 mins giving a race length of 1 hour.

The early pace was quickly established by Fylde 1, with RM Racing (well A9 Run actually!) and Fylde A fighting it out for second and third. Fylde 1 opened up a gap of 10 laps which could not be pegged back with A9Run finishing 7 laps clear of the very quick Fylde A.

Sunday 2 Sept Highland 8

Steve Smith from Highland joined on the Sunday to give 10 racers and a team partner for Glenn.

The heats for the 1/32 production were divided into two threes and a four so that we had sufficient marshalls. All the lanes were being used so there were empty lanes adjacent to everyone at some point. On the 8 lane it was four heats with the best two added together.

The early production pace was set by Richard with a 31 on black and 32 for Steve Sergent in super production on purple.

Paul Evans started putting encouraging runs together to get top spot for the C final with a score of 58.29. The slowing motor in Stevens car showed up on the 8 lane as he could only manage 56.55.

Sandy Wedderburn switched to a Genesis after two rounds and went at least a lap quicker in his last two rounds securing top spot in the B final with 61.74.

The super production cars are much faster on Highland 8 and so Steve Sergent came out top with 64.42, however Pete Clarkson showed what he could do with the best run of the day on white of 32.85 giving him second spot on 63.72. Richard was top production on 63.69.

The C Final saw a good fight between Paul and Steven with Paul a lap ahead at the end on 48. Steve Smith retired early with a stripped gear.

The B Final was a very close race between Sandy Wedderburn and the old fox Norman Fawcett. Again Sandy held his nerve and pace to finish just over half a lap up on 51.

In the A final the three super production cars were superior on pace to Richards production Genesis, however a wee bird had whispered to Pete that the race was his for the taking and he duly delivered with a fine 54 laps, a lap ahead of Steve Sergent. David finished third with 52 just a tenth ahead of  Richard also on 52.

Onto the team race and Glenn now had a partner in Steve Smith.  The race was to be on each of the 8 lanes for 7.5 minutes giving an hours racing. Again it was Fylde 1 with the pace from the start building a lead of around 3 laps in every stint never to be challenged. Fylde A were quick at times but were having chassis problems that cost them laps. A9 Run had their motor give up around half way leading to retirement and so Fylde 1 went on to win by 28 laps from 131 who were much stronger on the more open 8 lane track than the previous day.

A big thank you to everyone who came along and though numbers were low it was a very entertaining two days of racing. Hopefully everyone enjoyed it and got home safely. We look forward to seeing everyone again soon.
