Round 2 Netley 3rd April






We travelled to Southampton for the second round of the season at the Netley club.   A big thank you to Mark and Ali for a very well organised meeting.
Qualifying gave everybody a 3 minute run on each lane.  Up to the final heat Dave Stevenson and Paul Harwood were first and second with their super production cars.  To the surprise of many, not least Chris and Ali, in the final heat Chris Frost and Ali Dent took the top two spots with 25.58 and 25.54, both using Genesis.

Nick Thrower won the C final by over a lap from the closely matched Marc Lyons and Tony Mills.
Mike Davies is often the man to beat on Netley club nights, and unlocked that form in the B final to win by nearly a lap from Mark Witham - taking a Genesis 1-2 ahead of the supers of Aston Offer and Stan Alton.
In the A final the Chris and Ali went into the lead and were never more than a few feet apart.  Ali kept it on to take a well deserved win, Chris with one off finished a few feet behind with Paul also on the same lap in third.   Paul and Dave’s fastest lap times were the quickest, but they had too many offs.

There were only two clubman runners, Ali winning by 2 laps from Barry.  So Ali won all 3 (Outright, Hawk Masters and Clubman) possibly the first time in the Southern 32 anybody has achieved that?

Netley led the team race by a small margin from Luton until a gear noise heralded the end of the home team’s run - the real problem was a collapsed can end bearing which meant they retired to take 6th.  Luton’s win closed the points gap to second place Harwood racing while D & D recovered from a first segment pit stop to take third.


Thanks again to everybody for a very enjoyable days racing, look forward to seeing you all at Roedale for round 3 in May.

There’s just one gap in the calendar, please let me know if there’s a club prepared to host round 5 on July 24th.
