The series got off to a good start with 21 racers and an exceptionally strong top order. It was also very pleasing to see young Miley Lomas appearing at her 1st away meeting and enjoying her racing.
Steve Sargent
There was a very good turnout for the inaugral race of the 2022 BSL at Pontefract. All together we had 19 adults
and 2 Juniors, Miley and Tyler. Tyler was fresh from winning his first 1/32 National Title in Production. With so
many entries pit space was at a premium. Charlie Gooding unfortunately had to withdraw as he was feeling a little
poorly. His co pilot for the Team race, Graham Burke race put in a stellar performance later as a sole entrant.
Selected Lane 1 heats were as follows
First to get off the line in 1/32 Sports Production Heat1 were W Stemman, Miley, J Bryant and G Dickson.
Considering that Mily was only 11 years old, she aquitted herself well in the company of 3 Premier racers.
Heat 5 was set at a blistering pace with P Shepherd on 31, on par with the general pace at the club the previous
week in Open Gp 12 1/24 Sports. P Donely had a bit of a meltdown on the dreaded red lane whilst J Cleave
warmed to the tight corners on this the least of favourite lanes to clock a 29.28.
Selected Lane 2 heats were as follows
There was early success for T Tattersall on red lane who had a very close race with P Farthing on blue. As this was
Tylers‘ first outing on the track he showed immediate pace and will be hard to beat next time.
Heat 5 saw P Donely showing much better form with 28.31 on Green whilst P Shepherd flew round on Red with
29.85.
Heat 6 was J Cleave‘s best at 32.12 and TQ with a Super Wasp. Steve Sargent had sorted a car problem from the 1st
heat with a 27.52 and improved later with his Lane 3 run scoring 29.17 on Blue.
The 1/32 Sports Finals
In the F final, Sandy Wedderburn put in a smooth drive of 41.32 with Miley a credible 30.64. Miley was finally
coming to terms with the tight corners on the outside lanes Red and Yellow. Dave wood suffered a tough run with
some handling problems to come third.
Unfortunately for Mike Kettleson in the E final he lost a lead wire and T Tattersall had a mixed race with some
handling problems. P Farthing had a trouble free run to win on 44.35.
The D final was an extremely close race between P Clarkson and Pontefract racers C Morton and G Snaith. Pete
beat Chris by only half a lap and Chris was ahead of Geoff by only a few feet.
Close racing ensued again in the C final with C Jackson running clear by two laps at the end. You could throw a
blanket over the runners up, G Burke, J Bryant and R Turner, all within half a lap of each other. Great race to watch.
The B final saw a blistering pace set by W Stenman whose winning 52.64 would have given him second place in
the A final. The runners up, G Dickson, S Sargent and P Donely, were only seperated by a few feet from each other.
However none of them could match Will who was clear by seven laps.
In the A final Top Qualifier J Cleave ground out a narrow lead on Yellow early on from M Ellis. With 30 seconds to
go, James slowly widened the gap to just over half a lap to win, whilst P Shepherd was always in contention half a
lap behind in third.
