National Centre. Corby   2nd November

The final round of the 2025 Championship was at the BSCRA National Centre at Corby.  This year’s entry was a record 32, indeed the Southern 32 proved very successful this year with 63 drivers racing.

There was a full weekend’s racing on the track with Saturday's Super Challenge  and Southern 32 on Sunday.

Thanks to Nick Thrower for Race control and special thanks to Sammy and Michaela for the catering.

For this round we again used the 1 minute qualifying, 8 x 3 minute segmented race format that suits the race control system on this track.

Rather more of the field used Super Wasp powered cars on this big track than the Hawk / Eagle Masters class cars usually seen on club tracks.

Top qualifier Gavin Wills went 4 laps faster than he’d managed in the BSCRA Production Challenge in September to take the win.  Greg Harwood was second ahead of series Champion Dave Stevenson.  Dave was using a Super Wasp at this round, having run in the Master’s class for the rest of the season.   Fourth overall was Barry Gilzean with his Eagle powered JK X32 car, by far the quickest in Masters and some 8 laps more than he’d managed in the Production Challenge with Super Wasp power!  Paul Harwood was 5th to take second in the championship. Graham Clarke was 6th with an impressive run in the C final, he was another on of those using a Super Wasp  having run in the Master’s class for the rest of the season.

Hugh Conway won the Clubman championship with a Clubman win.

The A Final

Gavin’s winning car

Le Mans 32 Team Race

14 teams ran in the team race.  The Prestige team of Greg Harwood and Steve Pratt looked quickest for much of the race and won by 22 laps.  Second was the DOT team of Dave Stevenson and Tony Mills.   They had already won the championship, that second increased their winning margin to 29 points.

There were some impressive results for  teams running INTRO 32 cars, notably Gavin and Sammy Wills 4th, Keith Gibson, David Farrow 5th and Timaru 6th winning the Hawk/Eagle class in the championship.

The group 12 powered teams in contention for second and third in the championship had problems in todays race. Luton were well in contention in the early running, they retained second in the championship despite retiring  with a crash producing one of the most comprehensively bent chassis we’ve ever seen!  Tall Star retained  third in the championship despite retiring very early in the race.

Next Year

A big thank you to Nick for organising such a successful season’s racing.  We look forward to a great 2026 season.

The 2026 Southern 32 starts on 18th January, The 2026 dates have already been published and we expect  to confirm all the venues shortly.

Chris
