FYLDE 3rd November
After some disappointing entry numbers this season it was good to finish the BSL
season at Fylde on a relative high of 13 racers. However a far cry from the 1st Finals
30 years ago when 64 participated!
It was particularly good to see 3 racers making the trip down from Scotland.
The expected A final battle between Martin Ellis & Paul Shepherd never quite materialised as Shep hit a car problem early on leaving Martin to gradually ease to a lap victory from Steve Sargent. An impressive drive on the unfavoured yellow lane by Ian Fitzpatrick meant he was only just over a lap down on Steve.
After just missing out on the A final by a few feet Richard Turner put in a very impressive run to romp away with the B final. Similarly Ant Hawkes drove very well to walk away with the C final while Pete Crane, as ever, drove a very steady race to win the D final.
Ecurie Dunfermline, consisting of Alan Lucas & the talented newcomer Ryan Johnstone had clearly come in search of taking the team title. Allowing for 4 bonus points Dunfermline started with for having a clubman driver it meant Fylde+ consisting of Steve Sargent & Mark Croston would have to beat them by at least 3 places which with only 5 teams competing looked likely. HawkTuah7 consisting of Peter Donely & Pete Clarkson had a particularly quick car & led from start to finish. Fylde+ never seriously challenged them but were always ahead of the rest of the field. Dunfermeline were running steadily but with less track knowledge than other drivers were running last & needed someone to have problems but unfortunately for them it didn't happen.
More than anything a very enjoyable day's racing for all & a good note on which to end the 30th series. Congratulations to all this year's winners & a big thanks to those that have supported it.
