Betta and Classic Saloon

BSCRA’s premier 1/24 event of the year, the 2022 Internats had considerably more entries than the 2021 event, but still hasn’t recovered to pre pandemic levels.  Hopefully  we’ll see some of our friends from outside the UK at next year’s event.
Firstly a big thank you to our sponsors, Betta and Classic , and Won O Won.  Many thanks to Mark Witham and the team for running the meeting so efficiently.

The first event was Saturday’s production Saloon race sponsored by  Betta and Classic.

This class requires a group 12 motor and a standard pressed chassis.    There’s well over a dozen approved chassis in the rule book, but just about the whole field chose to race a JK Aeolos.

Once the cars passed scrutineering and controller testing system was turned on we started the one minute qualifying runs to seed the 28 entries into four 7 man finals.   Ross Grogan took top qualifying ahead of James Cleave and Will Stemman.

Chris Aldridge won the D final with 218 laps and Ian Howard set the top clubman time of 190 laps. Paul Harwood won the C with 226 laps from  Ron Kiddell on 222 with David Sargent third on 213 despite a pit stop.   Steve Kearey won the B with 230 laps followed by  Ben Woodward’s  220.  Pat Skene’ won the main grade with 219 laps in the B.

For the first quarter of the A final James Cleave and Ross Grogan ran in close company at the front with Josh Bryant in third.  Ross had a pit stop in segment 3 which left  James with a 5 lap lead, by the end James extended that to 6 laps to win from Ross and Josh.  Steve Kearey’s B final time took 4th overall ahead of A finalists Martin Ellis and Graham Woodward with Paul Harwood 7th from the C final.
