Round 10   Timaru - 20 September

Club web site

The penultimate 2015 round was held at the Timaru club in Broadstairs.  Thanks to all the Timuaru members for making it such a good meeting.

Several driver split their qualifying runs between Falcons and Supers so they could run in the Clubmans finals as well as running their faster cars in the overall finals.

A Clubman final was run between two drivers who hadn’t taken part in the qualifying, local man Mike Short won from Karen Pollen who got some valuable track time for the team event.

The B final was won by Billl Jenner from Stan Kirk with Cliff Bicknell the top visitor in third ahead of Richard Hills.  Terry Blackmore who was the sole C final qualifier decided not to run.

The Clubman A final produced a remarkably close finish - Graham Sampson won by one hundredth of a lap  from Peter Shaw with

Alan Furguson  and Geoff Halvorsen a few feet behind.

Super Production / Falcon Masters

Bill Jenner lead the D final till a bodywork in the gears left Cliff Bicknell to win from Les May.

Dave Harvey set the fastest final of the day, but as he’d only qualified for the C that left him 9th overall.   Nick Thrower and Stan Kirk followed with their supers, while Geoff Halvorsen took the Falcon Masters win.

Vince Lee won the B from Ian Barker.

The A final featured the two main championship contenders and two home members.  Just as in Clubman, Graham Sampson was within a few feet of the lead, but this time just behind Will Stemman with an impressive performance winning on his first visit to the track.  Paul Harwood was third ahead of Alan Ferguson.

He used two cars in the heats, the other one was damaged in the heats, - Will reckoned that was the faster of the two!

Le Mans 32 Team Race

With an impressive entry of 10 teams, the race was run with 12 minute segments.

The championship leaders Harwood Racing were represented by Dave Harvey and Will Stemman, while Paul Harwood drove a Falcon powered car with Karen.  Several people were consulting the rules about that, but Will is one of the two main drivers so it’s fully within the rules.   Dave and Will set the 4 fastest runs of the day to win by over 30 laps. The other main championship contenders, Luton, ran their normal team of Stan and Nick, and came home second, well clear of the rather close battles behind.  The Lutaru pairing of Peter Shaw and Richard Hills pulled well clear of the perusing bunch in the final segment.  A strong finish from White Cliffs (Stan and Mike) put them 4th, an impressive result for a Falcon powered car. Vince and Chris (GT)  just hung onto 5th with their slowing car ahead of the next Falcon runner of Bill and Graham. HAT and VIP both had delays in one segment which removed them from contention for a better finish.  Paul and Karen were the best visiting Falcon runners ahead of Church Farm.

Final 2015 Round - Deciding the 2016 Rules

The final round is at Luton in November.  There a need to decide about next season’s individual Falcon classes.  It seems very likely BSCRA will change over to the Genesis chassis next year, we’ll know exact rules  a few days after the BSCRA vote closes later this week.  The proposal for next year is.

1 Super Production continues with JK chassis to BSCRA rules.  The Falcon powered Genesis to BSCRA rules will be eligible to run in the overall classes

2 Clubman Production goes ahead with the Genesis chassis/ Falcon power to BSCRA rules, we have the option of allowing Falcon powered JK etc. chassis to run alongside them.

3 Falcon Masters goes ahead with the Genesis chassis to BSCRA rules, we have the option of allowing Falcon powered JK etc. chassis to run alongside them.

We’ll decide which option at Luton - we don’t have to have to adopt the same options in both Clubman and Falcon Masters.  More details of the choice when we know which way BSCRA has voted.

See you at Luton.
