Round 8 Roedale -
We were back on the south coast for the 8th round at the Roedale club in Brighton. Thanks to Ian King, Chris Church and all at Roedale for a very good day’s racing.
Ian’s very efficient race control gave us an early finish.
The heats produced the not unexpected result of Ian Barker and Vince Lee qualifying in the top two spots. Chris Frost was top in Falcon Masters. Over half the clubman’s entry were racing on the track for the first time, and no home members were running. Luton’s Marc Lyons was top clubman qualifier on his first visit to the track, with Richard Hills a few feet behind.
The clubman B final produced a win for Bill Jenner from Terry Blackmore. The A final in produced a close finish, Steve Rhodes won by a quarter of a lap from Richard Hills with Cliff Bicknell third ahead of top qualifier Marc.

The Super Prod and Falcon Masters run together, but perhaps for the first time the finals neatly split into two Falcon Masters finals and two Super Production finals.
Steve Rhodes took his second win of the day in the D final, this time it was Bill
Jenner just behind him.
Chris Frost won the C final and Falcon Masters ahead of a
close race between Richard Hills and John Ovens. Richard took second less than
a tenth of a lap up on John.
There were plenty of changes of lead in the B final,
in the end the top 3 were covered by about a quarter of a lap, Paul Harwood winning
from Ian Fisher and Murray Tucker.
In the A final, Ian Barker ran out winner by over
a lap from Vince followed by Will Stemman and Dave Harvey.

Le Mans 32
The shared driver rule gave us a field of 8 teams with 15 drivers, Will Stemman was the lucky one (?) with two teams.
Won O Won led from the start and were even faster in the second segment. One of the cars in that heat sounded like the gears were on the way out, although nobody seemed to be slowing. One team even had a wasted pit stop discovering it wasn’t their gears making the noise. Just before the end of the segment the gear noise got much worse as the Won O Won car slowed dramatically. Thus Luton took the lead just after half way with the Gumbo, GT and Harwood very close.
This event was unusual in having 3 Falcon powered teams. The Luton Layabouts and Church Farm teams who lacked home track knowledge and Norfolk... who had a considerable chance as Ian King was challenging the group 12 runners’ pace.
Championship leaders Harwood racing hit trouble soon after half way, and didn’t manage a return, while Won O Won returned to run very quickly in between further gear and body troubles. What was I saying about Will Stemman’s luck?
Luton came home winner by a comfortable margin ahead of Gumbo Slot and GT.
Norfolk and Chance won the Falcon class by nearly 100 laps, while second place was much closer, Luton Layabouts taking second in class ahead of Church Farm.
See you all at Dowtys in August for round 9.
