1/32   Nationals   2022

Sunday’s racing was the National Club Team championships.  A big thank you to our sponsors SCD and a special thank you to Christine for the catering.  Thanks to all the volunteers who helped run the meeting

There were 10 teams racing, 9 Club Teams plus one team using a driver from another area.  Each 4 driver team has a total of 3 hours running time - 22min 30 sec on each lane each driver runs on  2 lanes.  Each team has one Group 12 powered car.    Motors can be changed during race time, but that requires a length pit stop

The early leaders were Rockingham from Leicester and GSR.    By quarter distance  Luton A were a lap ahead of GSR, Netley held 5th ahead of Luton B, Fylde and Skyline.  GSR then decided their motor wasn’t quick enough, the pit stop  to change motors dropped them to 6th but gave them a quicker car.
By half distance Rockingham had 39 laps lead on Leicester who were just 5 up on Luton A.   GSR had recovered to 4
th ahead of Netley, Fylde and Luton B, while Oaklands were on the same lap as Skyline.   GSR took another lengthy pit stop which dropped them to 8th but gave them a car that set the 2 fastest segments of the entire race. Another team with a lengthy pit stop just after half way was NERCS, new motor brushes revived the car for one segment but eventually they retired.
Rockingham’s lead was up to 59 laps from Leicester as the race entered its last quarter. The now very rapid GSR had nearly caught Luton A who had been delayed by a pit stop.    Netley continued their steady progress in 5
th with Fylde just 3 laps in arrears.
Several of the teams were suffering slowing cars in the final part of the race,  but the Rockingham team finished off matching their fastest segment to win the race they had led all the way by 102 laps from Leicester who were 64 laps up on GSR.  The gaps in the midfield were rather smaller, that group were headed by Luton A and Netley.  Skyline passed Fylde for 6
th in the final segment while Oaklands passed the ailing Luton B car for 8th.

Thanks to everybody for a great week end’s racing, that completes this year’s national companionships, drivers will soon be running in area meetings to qualify for the 2023 1/32 Nationals at Corby on the Mayday bank holiday weekend.

The team cars were photographed and weighed before the start - here’s the whole field.
