1/24 OG12

After a little more practice, 24OG12 qualifying started on schedule. With 1 racer deciding to qualify on Sunday morning and 3 more racers due to join in the fun, we were not going to know the final order just yet.

As it turned out, the competition was really close with many drivers achieving laps in the 3.3s bracket and the 1/24 Production winner was bumped out of the A-Final on Sunday morning by Richard Mack.

The C-Final was plagued with body issues. Mike Thomson, Sandy Parker and Ian Howard all suffered body damage which hindered their progress.

The B-Final also had its fair share of dramas and was a very close race in the end. Scott Francis had the body through the gears in the first segment and it didn’t get much better after that. He eventually retired in the last segment but all credit to him for not giving up. Keith Gibson had a pinion spin in the first segment and attempted a quick repair, but like Scott in 24PR, it needed a more extensive repair but Keith was back up and running in segment 2. By segment 3, Richy Kettleson was suffering a bit of braid burn and this allowed Ross to take the lead at the start of segment 4. David Sargent also had a big smash in segment 4 when his car dropped into another lane. Ross and Richy were still very close, and Richy took the lead in the last segment, but he needed a clear run to hold off a consistent Ross. A few minor incidents later and Ross managed to take the lead with a minute to go and just held off Richy till the end. Would the A-Finalists be able to beat Ross’s time?

Well, the A-Final was a much cleaner race than the B-Final and three racers managed to beat Ross. James and Gavin swapped the lead early on, but the lane rotation worked in James’s favour, and he was able to pull out a few laps over Gavin towards the end on good lanes. Martin cruised home in 3rd place with no major dramas. Will sustained damage to tyres and body early in the race and made the decision to retire rather than become a mobile chicane.
