Round 2 Roedale 26 Feb
Our second round at Roedale an attracted an entry of 24. A big thank you to club, their very efficient race organisation.
This was our last chance to race on the track at Rusper Road. After some 23 years the club will be moving out over the next couple of weeks. The club will move into new premises a few miles away in mid March and will be building a new 4 lane track. The planned new 4 lane track will be quite a bit longer with a lap length of about 103 ft / 31m. The existing track is going to the west country, the new owner will be dismantling and collecting it shortly.
And so to the racing....
24 entries was the largest Southern 32 we’ve seen at Roedale,
it’s hardly ever been over 2/3 of that number. Visitors Paul Harwood, Aston Offer
and Mike Read produced 30 lap runs which looked good till the the later heats when
the locals showed us what super productions can do -
Of the Hawk runners, Ian King pair
of 29 laps runs looked good, Nick Thrower was the only visitor to achieve 29 with
a Hawk.
Clubman Finals
With 10 clubman runners, we had 3 finals. Mike Ransley won the C from martin Winkner. Bill Jenner won the B by over a lap from Ray Skilling. Ian King repeated his qualifying form to win by over 2 laps from series champion Barry Gilzean.

Clubman A Final
Overall finals
The E and F finals were won by the super wasp powered cars of John king and Mike Speight. Graham Sampson won the D with his Hawk while Les May won the C with his super. Ian King was the only Hawk in the top 2 finals, taking Hawk Maters and 7th overall. Mike read narrowly beat Aston Offer in the B. Ben Tapp won overall by 2 laps from Phil Moss closly followed by Jody Symons. Paul Harwood was the top visitor with 4th overall.
Le Mans 32
The ground clearance rule was firmly in place with Jody checking the cars between each segment, and several teams having to change tyres.
Team Dean took the lead from the start, despite starting on the unfancied yellow
lane. They proceeded to set the fastest times on all 4 lanes to win by over 50
laps. Harwood racing took second by some 30 laps from LMR.
The Hawk class is much
better supported than last year, the Garage 56 team set the fastest segments to
win the class with 6th overall.
Thanks again to everybody for a great final meeting at the track.
The next round is
in 26th March at Bournemouth.
If anybody would like a map to find the clubroom please
ask -
Look forward to seeing
you.
