1/32 Nationals 2019
Sunday’s racing was the 56th annual National Club Team Championship. This is for
teams of 4 drivers representing their clubs. This year we had just one “non club”
team -
Leicester
led by a lap from Pinewood at the end of the first segment. Rockingham took the lead
by 3 laps from Leicester at quarter distance. Team 238 passed them both to take
a one lap lead after 3 segments, could the non club team win? Not this year, 238
hit car trouble in the very next segment.
At half distance, Rockingham were back
in the lead 3 laps ahead of Leicester, and North London moved up to third some 20
laps in arrears. Rockingham held the lead for the next 3 segments, North London
had a rapid white lane segment 7 which took them to second just 3 laps off the lead
displacing Leicester to third.
An even better 7
With 6 laps covering the first 3 teams going into the final segment we were set for
a close finish. North London and Leicester clocked near identical final segments
to take first and second while Rockingham’s run of 5 National titles ended with 3rd
place within 6 laps of the winner. Congratulations to North London winning the title
for the 27th time (Yes twenty seven!) in what is probably the closest top 3 finish
in the history of the event.
