SCD National Club Team Championship
Sunday 22 July

Sunday’s racing was the National Club team championship.  The event is for teams of 4 drivers, each team has 3 hours running time.  This year we had 10 teams so there were ten 22½ minute segments each with 8 teams on track and 2 cars in parc ferme.  Of course “on track” doesn’t necessarily  mean actually running, it includes time in the pits.  Some teams had the misfortune to spend a lot of time in the pits.

There were 7 teams eligible for the Club Team title and 3  teams where the drivers weren’t all from one club.  

The early leader was K Slotcar team GSR, Keith Gibson setting a 231 lap first segment, while Rockingham and Luton club teams opened their accounts with 222.

Leicester were the leading club team  by quarter distance, with North London ahead of Rockingham .  K Slotcar were still headed the field and continues to lead throughout, Ross Grogan setting the fastest segment with 237.  Rockingham retook the club tem lead (second on the road) just after half distance while North London were next up ahead of Leicester.

So for only the second time in the long history of the event the National Club Team Champions title went to the team who finished second on the road, and a scratch team won the race but not the title.

The next National event is the Clubman Nats on 18/19th August, that will probably be on the new track.
