Luton BOC round 3 1/2 June
Saloon
Will Stemman’s hyper rapid Saturday practice form got lost somewhere between Broom and Chesham as he couldn’t reproduce the speed on Sunday. It was Josh Bryant who dipped into the 5.3s to claim top qualifier from Martin Ellis and Will. James Noake was impressive on his first LSCC experience taking 4th spot from Michael Ovens in 5th. The 2 main grade drivers were led by Steve Sargent from Richard Mack (also trying to get his rhythm on his first visit to Broom). The 2 clubman drivers (Bill Jenner and Steve Pratt from Norwich) took the last 2 places.
The 4 segment finals almost followed the qualy order with Josh taking a well deserved victory from Martin and the final podium place going to Michael Ovens after Will realised he had fitted the wrong tyres so ended up in 4th after a pit stop to change them to the right ones
F1
Josh signalled another on form drive by TQ’ing with a mighty 5.2 lap from Will only 38/1000 second behind Josh. Martin qualified in 3rd with Michel in 4th the top strap powered car.
We expected a close race between Josh and Will and so it started but Will suffered
a stripped gear and eventually retired promoting Martin to 2nd and Michael to 3rd
– top strap car ahead of the strap cars of Gibbo and James. Will’s retirement also
promoted clubman and National Clubman champion Bil Jenner to 8th. Bill was expecting
to finish last in all 3 classes -
Sports/GT
Now we were into the 4 second laps. This time it was Martin who claimed top spot with a 4.5 from Will and Josh on 4.6s. James got well into the grove with the top strap car to claim 3rd on a 4.7. Who said the straps are dead.
Martin went on to claim victory with exactly 143 laps from Josh (141) and Will (140). At least Will’s car completed the race without incident but he couldn’t match his Saturday practice pace. James dropped one place with his strap car to claim 4th on 133 laps.
Congratulations to Josh on 2 1st places and 1 2nd and to Martin winning sports and
keeping us all entertained through the weekend. Also to Richard Mack on his first
visit to the track and winning Main grade races by 2:1 from Steve Sargent. And of
the clubman racers -
See you all at Dave’s for the next round on 13/14 July.
