FYLDE OPEN 27/28 January 2024 sponsored by Betta & Classic



Thank you to the 17 entrants at the 1st  BOC of the year for setting it off to a great start at the Fylde Open. It provided one of the strongest fields we have seen at a 1/32nd BOC for quite a while. .Noteably we welcomed the return of Gavin Wills to a 1/32nd BOC for the 1st time in some years. Mark Croston made his welcome return after a gap of around 20 years & it was great to see a member of the legendary Medway Team, Pete Crane re-appear after about as long again!


All 3 of the above drivers performed very well in the racing. Gavin Tq’d in Saloon but could do nothing to stop the characteristic early charge by James Cleave to gain a 2 lap lead in the 1st segment & go on to win by a 4 lap margin from Gavin.


Pete Crane made a big impact in F!, not only beating his race sponsor Ant Hawkes but finishing in the overall top half using an F2 car! Will Stemman tq’d in this class but again James Cleave built an early buffer to take the win from an impressive brushless car in the hands of Martin Ellis.


Mark Croston excelled in Sports to qualify for the B Final which after 20 years away was very impressive. James Cleave Tq’d  with a brushless car but 2 failed gears in the race took him out of contention & Will Stemman took the win from Gavin Wills by 9 feet!

Even closer were Ant Hawkes & Pete Crane who were separated by 1 foot in that order – team orders in slot racing surely not!!  Chris  Aldridge finished the day on a high with a 3rd in Sports to secure top Main Grade.


More than anything there was a friendly & co-operative spirit throughout the weekend from racers. This hopefully allowed everyone to enjoy the racing & social element and certainly made our job hosting the event easier with racing finishing around 5.15.
