1/24 BOC  2024   British Open Championship

1/24 Nationals

Open Group 12 23/24 November

The second class of the weekend was Open Group 12.

Roger Smart won best presented bodyshell

24 drivers ran their OG 12 cars on Saturday and took their 1 minute qualifying runs on Saturday evening.  The remaining 4 practiced and qualified on Sunday morning.   That seeded the field into four groups of seven.

Top qualifier was again James Cleave on 4.782 followed by Gavin Wills and Lee Parsons, these 3 were the only ones under 5 seconds.

The D final was won by Mark Witham, this time  on 238 laps, 5 ahead of Ant Hawkes who was 3 up on Richard Turner.  We hadn’t seen Mark’s speed before the race as he hadn’t completed a qualifying lap.

The C final produced a Scottish 1-2, Neil Grogan winning to take 3rd so far with Pat Skene slotting into 5th so far.  There were lots of car problems in this final, only 3 or 4 cars were running for quite a lot of the race.

The B final saw some much cleaner runs with Ron Kiddell (249) Keith Gibson (245) and Martin Ellis (239) relegating Mark to 4th so far.

The A final pace was certainly faster, which I suppose shouldn't be a surprise!   Again James Cleave and Josh Bryant ran 1-2, James is Open Group 12 champion for the third year running, and Josh’s second place points was just what he needed in the British Open Championship. They were followed by Gavin Wills, Richard Mack and Simon Scott with Ron’s B final score being good for 6th overall.  Lee Parsons set the fastest lap of the race, but delays starting with a body through the gears incident in the first segment  left him 7th overall.
