The Eurosport D final - with an unusual driver line up!

Simon Scott, Sandy Grant, Ant Hawkes, Keith Gibson, Ricky Gowan, Steve Pratt and James Cleave.

The final class raced was Eurosport.  This is the fastest class and the only one allowing a free choice of motors.    This year the top 10 all used brushless motors where as last year the highest placed brushless was 4th.

Roger Smart won best presented bodyshell

Gavin Wills top qualified with a 3.87 second lap, the only driver under 4 seconds.  He was followed by Lee Parsons, Josh Bryant, and Martin Ellis  Next up were the only drivers running brushless motors here two years ago Bob Budge and Richard Mack.  Adrian Blakey was next up making his first National A final.

Again the racing was split into four seven driver finals.

The D final included 2 drivers who had raced in the A finals in the other 2 classes.    James Cleave’s car had failed to run in qualifying, but with the motor wires connected it proved to be by far the fastest car turning a fastest lap under 4 seconds.    Simon Scott was faster in the race  than qualifying, getting into the 4.5s in the race, but everybody else was running over 5 second laps.   In fact everybody drove very sensibly so the speed differential was much less of a problem than you might expect.   James did have a crash in the 7th segment which slowed his car for the rest of the race. However James still set a record braking 319 lap total, some 66 laps ahead of second place Simon and over 80 ahead of third place Ant Hawkes

Barry Gilzean was clear winner of the C final on 277 from the top brushed runner  Richard Beamish on 259, moving them to second and third so far.

James Noake won the B final on 284 ahead of Ron Kiddell on 276 and Colin Wilkinson 260.

The A Final

Gavin Wills    Lee Parsons     Josh Bryant    Martin Ellis    Bob Budge     Richard Mack       Adrain Blakey

James has set the target for the A final, could they beat his score? Gavin Wills won the A final, his 312 lap score was faster than the old track record but over 6 laps short of the pace James had set in the D final.    Martin Ellis was next ahead of Josh Bryant.  Martin’s third place points were enough to equal Josh’s BOC points, so they share the 2024 British Open Championship.   James Noake’s B final  score was good for 5th overall,  Barry’s C final run took him to 6th,  Ron’s B final  score was good for 7th.  They were followed by Richard Mack and Adrian Blakey.
