The fastest class of the weekend was run on Monday. A big thank you to Dave Harvey
for the Won-
The class allows a free choice of chassis and motor.
Brushless motors are allowed and 8 of the 24 drivers chose that option. The fastest
times were set with strap motored cars
In qualifying James Cleave’s 4.212 second lap, a little short of the 4.082 record he set in 2021. James thought the track was a bit slower this year, possibly due to more rubber/goop on the straights. Ross Grogan and Gavin Wills were second and third while Richard Mack was the fastest brushless powered car on 4.484 setting a new brushless record. Will Stemman’s pinion came unsoldered on his first qualifying lap so he qualified last.
Sandy Parker won the C final from Will Stemman. When he was running, Will was fastest by such a margin that lapping other cars was a problem even though the other drivers were trying to cooperate.
Keith Gibson won the B final from Ron Kiddell.
Gavin Wills led the A final from the start followed by Chris Thomas and James Cleave. James was up to second by quarter distance, and took the lead in the third segment. Richard Mack had the only brushless car in the A, he suffered accident damage in the first third of the race. At half distance James has a 5 lap lead from Chris and Gavin who were less than half a lap apart. At the end James had extended his lead to 11 laps from Chris with Gavin 7 laps further back in 3rd. Keith and Ron’s B final runs were good for 4th and 5th ahead of A finalists Josh Bryant and Graham Woodward. Woody was again the top main grade driver.
Congratulations to James on winning all 3 classes at both the 1/24 Internats and
1/32 Nationals this year -
Thanks to everybody who made this such a successful meeting, especially Mark and all the other volunteer race controllers.
Best of luck to all the British top racers will be going to the USA for the World
Championships. Quite a few drivers are still very much in the running for this year’s
