Brooklands Slot Racing Festival - August 16th 2009
Feature Race
Drag Strip | Test Hill | Longest Track Record | Home
The Feature race was for 1/32 models of cars that actually raced at Brooklands. Brooklands was the most important motor racing venue in Britain from its opening in 1907 through till 1939 when World War 2 forced its closure. Cars that raced there ranged for 3 wheeled Morgans through contemporary Grand Prix cars to aero engined monsters - and all of them were represented in the Feature race.
The Feature race was an excellent event which everybody
enjoyed. Thanks to Sean the main organizer, to Bill Chatters, Tony Condon
and Steve Francis for organizing the racing and to Pinewood club for the track
and faultless race control.
The Feature race was just one part of the Brooklands Slot Racing Festival
which had many different slot racing events all going on at the same
time.

The days started with concours judging, all the car were put out on the track, and every racer voted for their top 3.
You only needed a short walk to compare some entries with the real thing, like the Brooklands lap record holding Napier Railton.
Third in concours was Marlon Foakes with this Talbot 700 Grand Prix car.
Second in concours and winner of the combined event (with 5th in the over 2 liter final) was Bryan King's Bentley. The chassis design featured a "rattle plate" - a brass plate fixed to the body which is free to move by a small amount relative to the main chassis.
Concours winner was Phil Smith's Morgan. It has O ring drive to rear wheel drive via a crown wheel and pinion from the motor. Several people enquired if the rear wheel would fall down the slot, but there was no sign of that problem, indeed it ran quite well. Phil has a posted the step by step story of how he built the car on the Slot Forum.
