INTRO 32 and Clubman Saloon Championships

UK Slot Car Festival at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon 13/14 May

The Clubman Nationals returned to the British Motor Museum Gaydon following its very successful debut there last year. BSCRA has had a stand at the UK Slot Car Festival for several years, using the Nationals track and running championship racing puts us much more centre stage at this event. As well as our championships, the track was used for public running giving the Slot Festival visitors a chance to drive on the big track with house cars and for some racing with Thunder Slot hard bodied cars.

The INTRO 32 event was moved to the Saturday and saw an entry of 19. The 1 minute qualifying drew a particularly large audience, top qualifying went to James Noake with a 6.454 second lap. Simon Francis was next up on 6.628 followed by Alex Fear and Ron Kiddell also in the 6.6s. The entry was then split into two finals in an 8x3 minute segmented format.

The 10 man B final was won by Simon Bullen by 3 laps from Callum Wood very closely followed by Dick Stevenson.

In the A final top qualifier James Noake took an early lead from Josh Howley. By half way Simon Francis came through to second about 4 laps behind James. James hit trouble which dropped him to an evental 7th while Simon increased his pace in the second half to win by a clear 10 laps from Josh, Ian Howard took 3rd less than a tenth of a lap up on Marc Lyons.

Best presented body in INTRO 32  was won by Bill Jenner’s  Nissan

The saloon event was held on Sunday.  In qualifying Ron Kiddell took top spot in qualifying with a 6.227 sec lap, over a tenth ahead of Bill Jenner and Josh Howley.

Damon Ryland won the B final by 5 laps from the closely matched Simon Bullen and Ian Howard.

Josh Howley and Ron Kiddell exchanged to lead early in the A final. Josh pulled out a 4 lap lead by half distance, Ron’s cause wasn't helped by the rear of the body tucking up and Marc Lyons was now closing in on second.  Josh extended his lead to win the championship by 9 laps from Marc, while Ron who was in a close fight for second was delayed by several minor problems leaving him 5 laps down on Marc and only a couple of laps clear of Ray George.

Thanks to everybody that made this event such a success,  race controllers Nigel, Steve and  Graeme, all those who helped the public (not least with marshalling), the team who transported , assembled and removed the track.

See you all at the Team event / Production Challenge in July.

Chris
