The A final cars

The Production Challenge was open to all grades of driver.   The event is for super production cars which means the quicker cars were Super Wasp powered JK X32 chassis, but Falcon and Hawk powered cars are also eligible.

Many thanks to race controllers James Cleave and Peter Donely.

The one minute qualifying runs for INTRO 32 and Super Production were run together,  clubman grade drivers could enter both classes and have a  qualifying run for each class.

James Cleave top qualified with a  6.075 second lap.  Last time we ran this class in 2019 TQ was 3 hundredths quicker, unlike the other 32nd classes which were slightly quicker than 2019.    Will Stemman was second on 6.103 followed by Ross Grogan (6.296) and Paul Harwood (6.421).

The 9 man B final was won by Stan Alton by 3 laps from Nick Clements, Nick was the top Falcon / Hawk powered car.

The A final was all premier grade drivers except for Aston Offer who will be premier next year.    The top 3 qualifiers made it a close race at the front.  Will lead most of the way but James was mostly within  a lap and Ross within a couple of laps of second.   Will won with some 3 laps more than the 2019 winning score, he was than a lap ahead of James with Ross 3rd ahead of Gavin Wills and Paul Harwood.   Rather unusually, all 8 A finalist finished ahead of the B.

Congratulations to Will on his first Individual overall National title.

Floating  body  mount

Will’s winning car.  It has a JK X32 chassis.  Like many of the cars in this class it has gel tape damping the movement between the two parts of the chassis.

The Koford Super Wasp motor built by Dave Harvey has Koford scale magnets, a 0.513” diameter Koford arm with 45 degree comm advance.   The gears are 72 pitch 7:42, rear tyres Alpha 20 Pirana, 3/32” rear axle and a BSP Audi R10 body.

The close up shows the floating pin tubes. Will often uses body clip rather than pins in this class, that’s another way of allowing the body to float.
