After a very lean season for attendances last year we were very keen at Fylde to get this season’s 1/32nd BOC off to a good start. With the biggest Saturday practice attendance I can remember for some time the meeting actually got off to a great start. A very enjoyable evening meal gathering adjacent to the hotel many racers stayed at set the tone for a very sociable day’s racing on the Sunday.

A further 3 racers appeared on the Sunday meaning the pressure was on us to organise a meeting which delivered some great racing & allowed racers to get home at a sensible time. The recent trend with small entries of substantial warm up practice before F1 & Sports was clearly something to address. Following a vote of racers to either still have qualy heats in saloon or 1 allocated practice session before F1 & Sports, there was a clear vote in favour of the latter.

With 18 racers everyone had breaks without marshalling or racing so there was no need to stop racing for a lunch break. Drivers were taken on trust to run legal cars in qualy which saved some time & apart from the 1st Final in each class all cars were tech’d & impounded during the previous Final.

In his 1st visit to the track Josh Bryant TQ’d in Saloon but in the racing could not hold off a 1,2,3 performance by the Blackpool trio of Shep, Martin & the returning Mr.Gordick, Gordon who was top main grade driver.

The event marked the start of the new restricted formula division with David Ensor appearing in his first BOC & Graham Walker, who it was great just to see in action after major surgery, making his return to the BOC after a 30 year absence!

In F1 Martin TQ’d with Josh 2nd but Josh was not for being outdone again, taking a 4 lap lead in the 1st 2 segments which he held to the end. Gordon Dickson took main grade honours while

David Ensor’s smooth drive with an F2 allowed him to beat Graham & 2 others.

In Sports Shep Tq’d ahead of Josh & followed this through with an emphatic 7 lap victory over Josh who in turn was 9 laps up on 3rd placed Ben. A very impressive top main grade drive was

made from Andy Smith who qualified 11th but finished 5th. Going under the radar a little was Mick Metcalfe whose 4th place along with strong performances in the other classes put him well up the points order. David again beat Graham in a close battle with 4 other racers below them.

A very big thank you to all the racers who supported the meeting. Your co-operation & good spirited racing helped make for a very good day & allowed us to finish racing for a timely 5.30.

Hopefully we set the right tone & this will leave you wanting to come back for more at the otherrounds as well as encouraging other racers.
