AREA 2 - FYLDE Area Meeting January 2012

A big thanks to the great turnout of 22 racers who made for an excellent day's racing at the Fylde Area Round on January 8th with wins for Anthony Jennings in Production, David Sargent in Saloon & F1 and Paul Shepherd Sports.

Very best wishes for a speedy recovery to Anthony's Dad Paul who has missed racing since the BSL Finals due to illness.

SAD NEWS

Unfortunatly after many years Bolton Slot Car Club have been asked to give up their club room. They have been offered a room in the basement of the YMCA and work has begun on refurbing the room and building a new track to fit in to a smaller room. The current 5 lane Bolton track has found a new home in North Wales, more details to follow.................. This means that Bolton will be unable to host an Area round this year. BETTER NEWS

Gary Stone has now officially opened Stonerig Raceway in Oldham and has a busy schedule of parties and corporate events booked in for the Scalextric tracks. He has spent a considerable amount of time on the old Fylde track surface, sanding and smoothing the joints, repainting it and rewiring it with the help of Glyn Taylor, Martin Ellis, Barry James, and occasionally myself. Gary has opted for the latest version of Slot Master race control software and has decided to totally rebraid the track. When the track is rebraided we will be able to hold an Area round on it, more on this later.

INTER CLUB RACING

Midweek racing on the various club tracks or inter club racing has been talked about for a while now, perhaps it is time to do something about it. Recently myself and Paul Shepherd visited Fylde on a Wednesday night and had a great evening, thanks to all at Fylde for that ! If we can discuss some sort of preffered format and classes when we next meet up we can get the ball rolling and start something after the BSL Finals. One thing that is of interest is racing in the dark with cars having headlights, sound fun !

BSL FINALS

Its not long until the BSL Finals weekend that this year are back in the North where they belong, at Myerscough College near Billsborrow. Steve Sargent has asked for help with setting up the track on Friday and dismanteling it on the Sunday. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Even if you have not done any previous BSL races this season you are still welcome to come along and race at one of the best race weekends of the year.

AREA ROUNDS

For any new BSCRA members the Area Rounds are the way in which each geographical area of BSCRA decide upon who will represent each area at the BSCRA 1/32nd National Championships. They are the route to the premier racing event on the racing callender, but to attend you must first qualify, and we do this at the Area Rounds. With the loss of Bolton we are down to just 3 clubs in Area 2. Fylde did ask for the first round but then realised that David Sargent would be in the middle of some important exams so asked for a later date which we have now done, so the official dates and venues are as follows.

Sunday 11th December 2011 - Blackpool Slot Car Club

Sunday 8th January 2012 - Fylde Model Car Raceway

Sunday 12th February 2012 - Stonerig Raceway

I will publish full rules and race formats nearer the time which have not changed from last year.

The Fylde Area Round scheduled for 10th Feb has been moved a week later to Sunday 17th February to allow the Fylde Club to hold a publicity event at the North West Legends Rally over the weekend.
