Super Production

The BSCRA "Production Challenge"  was held on Saturday 10th September.  In the Enderby Leisure center (near Leicester) which has proved such a good venue for the 1/24 Nationals.    Thanks to everybody who helped make the event such a success, there are too many to mention everybody, but we certainly mustn't forget Sandy Parker, Andy Brown, and Richard Stewart .

The UK 8 Track

This is the youngest of BSCRA's National events, first being run in 2003 when 1/32 Production racing was split into two classes - Super Production open to all drivers and Falcon powered  Production cars open to Novice grade drivers only.  The national Production championship was run in May where David Farrow became National Champion.  This is the National Championship for Super Production cars, with separate finals for both Main and Intermediate grade Super Production, plus a final for Novice grade drivers restricted to the lower powered cars.

The format gives everybody a segmented race on 4 lanes, followed by reseeding and another segmented race (on the other 4 lanes).  The fastest in these 4 x 3 min races qualify for the 8x 2 minute finals. With 51 drivers racing we ran it as 7 groups with 7 or 8 in each.

The first runs were seeded by driver grade with Novice running first and Premier drivers last.  Fastest of the early runners was Farnz Barillaro with 106, a remarkable Falcon powered time.  In the next race Michael Ovens showed us how quick a super production car can be with 111.  Mike Crofts turned in 116 in the 4th heat, Richard Mack topped this by a few feet in heat 2, only for James Cleave to go top in the 7th and last of the first round heats with 120.  The second round saw Bob Budge move up to second in Falcon just a few feet behind Franz.  Michael Ovens' 111 was still clear top in intermediate grade, although Franz (this time with his super prod car) and Kev Gray both turned in 107 laps to take 2nd and 3rd.  Mike Thomson set 113 to take top qualifying spot for the main grade final.  Paul Shepherd set 119 to take second overall
