15 March   Millstream

The third 2020 round was at Millstream Raceway in Ringwood.  There were 17 entries, a couple of the regulars were ill - get well soon!.

A big thank you to the organisers, Dave Wright on race control all day and Simon.

The individual racing used the middle 6 lanes of the track, so everybody  got 6 heats rather than the usual 4.

Will Stemman was the fastest qualifier with 33.75, over a lap faster than his TQ time here last year.  Steve Kearey joined him in the 33s.   Simon Francis was the top Genesis runner just ahead of Brian Saunders with times just behind last year’s Falcon TQ.

Clubman Finals

With 10 clubman runners, we had two finals.

Peter Kerr won the 4 man B final.  He was the only runner to split his runs between the two classes, we only saw the full potential of his Hawk powered car in this final.

Doug Garvie was top qualifier for the A final and led most of the way, only for new  National Clubman champion Marc Lyons to overtake him on the last lap to take the win, and extend his championship lead.  Adrian Gay made his first Southern 32 appearance, taking third place.

Overall Finals

Alan Clark won the C Final from Ali Dent.

The B final saw  the same 1-2 as the clubman final, but this time Marc did most of the leading.

In the A final Will won and extended his championship lead.  While Paul Harwood took second ahead of Steve Kearey.   Brian Saunders  was 5th overall and extended his Hawk Masters championship lead over second place Simon.

Le Mans 32

Eight teams and 8 lanes meant all the teams raced straight through rather than the usual sit outs. M&S formed a 3 man team so all 17 drivers got a race.

“How Hard Can It Be” won by just 3 laps from Luton SCC, these two had previously been tied for the championship lead.  Harwood Racing took third. Next up came a close finish in the Falcon/Hawk class with GT taking 4th overall by 4 laps from Fatface.  Yet another championship leader won and extended their championship lead!  Then came the 3 man team while Norfolk and Chance took the ...chance to finish 7th just one lap ahead of Netley

Next Round

The Southern 32 now takes a break till round 4 at Roedale on 31st May.

We are all very keen to see this and the other scheduled rounds take place.  However none of us know what measures the government will introduce to combat coronavirus over the next 11 weeks. As most of you already know, the BSCRA Council will be monitoring the situation so watch this web site and the BSCRA Facebook groups for news.

Latest up date

Following the change in Government advice on Monday 16th March,  Roedale and many other clubs are closed.   I have consulted with clubs on future plans for the Southern 32 season, the main points are-
