IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

We moved to our  new clubroom at Portsmouth Road, Southampton in March 2012.  Our first job will be decorating the new clubroom, followed by building a new track.
For more up to date news please contact  Mark Witham on 01329 665955, or Richard Smith on 01489 690711.

Our Former club room

Up to November 2011, Netley Model Car Racing Club, was situated in Station Road, Netley in Hampshire, and raced every Monday night on its' purpose built, 120ft long, 4 lane track. The Netley club has been in existence in Station Road for almost 40 years, making it one of the longest running slot clubs in the country. Although the main emphasis of the club, is a social gathering for people with an interest in Motor Sport, a competitive element means that some of the club members compete at other venues in : Southern 32 championship meetings, open meetings, ad hoc endurance events, and the National Finals in May.

Netley races a variety of car classes, including production slot cars in 1/32nd and 1/24th scale, and scratch built 1/32nd scale. Usually, a different class is raced each night, and visitors are encouraged to 'try their hand' during practice, and join in the racing, which begins at 8.45pm. Club cars and hand controllers are available for visitors to borrow, while for those wanting to join the club, new cars can be assembled simply, from as little as 30 pounds, and hand controllers can be purchased from the main suppliers from 15 - £20 pounds.
Main classes are for :
Scratch built, current Grand Prix cars (1/32) Production Saloon (1/32)
Sports cars -  Production 1960's sports cars (1/24) - Scratch built sports cars (1/32)

The track

The track was built in 1989, with the slots routed in 3/4 inch chipboard, and has a lap length of 120 ft. The pick up is from copper braid.  Here are photos taken from either end of the track.

Classes raced at Netley

BSCRA classes raced at Netley, showing a 1/24 scale Lola T70 sports car, a 1/32 Williams FW14 Grand Prix car, a 1/32 Porsche K2 sports car, and a 1/32 Alfa Romeo saloon car.

All the bodies were painted by Mick Langridge who has won concours titles at both National and International meetings.

On most evenings, drivers have one race on each lane with their own car. The fastest single run counts towards which final they race in.
The winner of each final moves up to the next one, with the last race of the evening (the A final) producing the overall winner for the night.
