The  ECRA D track was used from 82 to 86. Here's a couple of pictures of it in Vince Woodman's VMW motors near Bristol for the 82 Nats.  The right hand shot show's Vince's BTCC Capri adjacent to the track

When it came to the Club Team Championship there was only one winner on the D track - North London SME won it 5 years on the trot from  82 to 86 - all 5 times with Ian Fisher (left) and Chris James (right) driving.  Ian was also part of the team in North London's first set of  5 in a row victories from 71 to 75.

Alan Lucas seen here driving in the 82 Club Team Championship for North London went on to win Grand Prix in 86.

Alan has a superb record in the Club Team Championship and is one of only 3 driver to have won  as a member of more than one  club. (North London 82, 83, 84, & 85 and Ecurie Barnton (Edinburgh) 77, 79 & 87).  The timing of moving his job from Edinburgh to London and then back to Scotland wasn't quite perfect - he drove for North London in 1980 when Barnton won, and returned to Barnton in 86 when North London won.

In case anybody is wondering, the other drivers to have won for more than one club were Alan's brother Frank (Ecurie Barnton (Edinburgh) 77, 80 & 87 and North London 1993) and Stan Alton (Beckenham 65, Sidcup 67, Coulsdon 68, Sydenham 1970)

The best presented body that so many people remember - from 82 John Goldsmith's BMW M1. Yes the real thing raced at Le Mans in that colour scheme!

Oh yes we did race on orange rear tyres in those days.

1982 was the final year of formula 32 before its replacement by novice saloon in 83. The winner was Mark Harrison (right) - a name we would hear a lot more of winning the National 5 time and BOC 6 times. Curiously none of the 11 other the F32 Champions ever won the Nats outright.

Back to early 80's Nats - Part 3 - Steve Walker wins all 3
