1/32 Nationals 2021
The 57th National Club Team Championship was run on Sunday 19th September. A big thank you to sponsors SCD whose founder the late Chas Keeling was at the very first championships in 1964. Thanks to Kev Gray for coming out of retirement to race control this event for us.
Eight teams of 4 drivers raced group 12 powered sports cars for 3 hours -
Luton led the first segment with Steve Kearey’s 207 lap run but soon after hit car
troubles leaving them running between 5th and 7th with a visibly slow motor.
The
North London N13 team took the lead by quarter distance, Rockingham were only one
lap behind after Nick Clements turned in a 208 lap run. GSR were in third 20 laps
behind the leader.
By half distance a 208 lap run from Greg Harwood extended the
London team’s lead to 26 laps from GSR and Rockingham both on the same lap.
GSR’s
Keith Gibson set the fastest segment of the day so far in segment 5 with 210 laps
on the unpopular black lane. At 3/4 distance North London were still 18 laps ahead
of GSR with Rockingham a further 6 laps in arrears. The GSR car looked quicker than
ever in Ross Grogan’s hands, and segments of 216 and 211 to take the lead in the
final segment finally to win with 1635 laps. North London N19 were second on 1624
which was 15 laps quicker than the 2019 winning distance. Rockingham took 3rd with
Leicester 4th, Oaklands 5th, Luton 7 laps up on Oaklands with Coulsdon in 8th having
retired with a drastically slowing car during segment 7. Congratulations to GSR
Racing, the first Area 8 team to win this event since Haydon in 1978.

The cars before the start with the spare bodies and spare motors . The BPA Lola body was most popular then the Kolhoza Audi and Betta Mazda
There were a wide variety of chassis used, a couple of the more
unusual ones are
shown below

Rockingham Coulsdon N.london Oaklands
The winning car had a GSR chassis (not the one Ross used to win the saloon championship 3 weeks earlier), and a Valiko armature geared 6:39. Most of the field used Pro Slot cans, Koford and ProSlot arms were popular although one team used a S&K arm, all were geared at either 6:39 or 6:40. |
