Blackpool Area Round – 10 Jan 2016

A good turn out of 17 racers contested the 1st Area Round of the season on the brand new impressively made 6 lane Blackpool circuit.

The track as expected proved fast with no very tight corners but still with some demanding sections to master. The innocuous looking wide radius ‘banana’ curve coming out under the bridge proved to be far & away the most challenging with racers overcooking it & it was probably responsible for 75% or more of the many track calls needed during racing. No doubt we will all get used to this feature in time!

Predictably Blackpool’s top racers dominating qualifying & much of the racing as this was the visiting Fylde drivers 1st outing on the circuit.

Capitalising well on the home advantage Peter Donely produced some very good results, most noticeably in Sports qualy when he made the A Final which he duly celebrated like a rare BFC victory!! Paul Jennings also drove very well in all classes & took an easy 9 lap victory in Production while the improving Kyle Andrews won the 4 way 2nd placed battle with all on the same lap. Harry Shepherd was also very impressive for his age – especially in his favoured Sports class when he finished 9th.

It was just like OG12 at Millstream again as Martin Ellis romped away with Saloon by 10 laps.

He miscalculated in Sports posting too fast a score in qualy to run in the bottom final so duly put in a very quick lap for the A which he did not race in! Meanwhile Shep took the honours comfortably in F1 & Sports.

Unfortunately Norman Fawcett had to go home after 2 classes due to not feeling well but apart from that a good day’s racing seemed to be had by all.

Well done to Blackpool for their hard working getting the track up & running in time for the area meeting.

For those who appeared unable to obtain Genesis cars in time for the meeting please note Bob Budge has a ready supply of complete kits so all Novice racers should be able to run the correct cars at the Fylde round.
