Blackpool Area Round – 11 Jan 15


A great turnout of 20 racers, particularly considering the weather in parts of the area, got this year’s area rounds off to an excellent start.

Even more pleasing was that 10 racers contested Novice Production with 3 of them competing in their 1st ever area round. Home driver Eddie Peaker just clinched a popular 1st victory from the ever improving young Fylde driver Callum Wood.  Of the new drivers catching all the limelight was 4 year old Harry Shepherd who finished 6th out of 10, a truly impressive debut. Clearly he takes after his dad although he was very quiet!

Dad of course dominated the open class racing to take all 3 despite a reduced number of magnets for most of the sports race. Best performing visitor across the classes was a surprised & delighted Pete Clarkson while Peter Donely put in a great drive in Sports to finish in 7th spot.

This was the first time we have run segmented racing in all classes so as to continue to mirror the Nationals format. With 20 entries it was clearly the right decision time wise just to have 1 min qualifying rather than 2 x 3 min heats in the open classes although this format clearly caught a few out with no warm up heats but certainly produced some good racing.

With 2 less premier drivers in the area this year the fight to qualify of right for the Nationals looks like being as intense as ever. With that in mind can I just remind all racer to ensure you have paid your BSCRA membership before the end of the month please.
