Round 10 - Netley - 3 December

                      Club web site

The final round of 2017 was at Netley.  A big thank you to all at Netley for an excellent day’s racing.

The 3 minute qualifying heats saw Will Stemman take top spot with 27.02 well clear of Mark Witham and Dick Smith on high 25s, Vince Lee completed the top 4 with a big 24.  Tha fastest Falcon runner was Simon Francis on 24.45.

The Super Production Finals commenced with the D, where Bill Jenner won from Dick Stevenson.   Ali Dent won the C, taking second in Falcon Masters.  Dave Stevenson was an early departure from the next final with body through the gears. Ian Barker won the B from Simon Francis and Ian Fisher.  Simon won Falcon Masters, he had won the championship at the previous round.  The A final was won by Will Stemman from Dick Smith.  Mark Witham and Vince Lee had far from clean runs to 3rd and 4th.  Will had already won the championship, this was his third win of the year.

The were just 5 Clubman entries, Bill Jenner being the unlucky one who missed oout on another run.    Simon Franics won the final from Ali Dent.  Andy Bishop’s third place was enough to overtake Bill for second in the championship.    Simon had already won the Championship, but today’s result gave him the maximum possible score with 6 wins.    As the National champion in this class, Simon will be ineligible for clubman next year.

Le Mans 32

GT led nearly all the way to take the team’s first win of the season aided in no small part by  Ian Fisher’s car running faultlessly throughout.  It’s not unusual  in Le Mans 32 races for most teams to have reasonably untroubled runs, but today’s race featured a remarkable amount of unreliability.  There were several stripped gears. The worst problems were with Lerkio who gave up on their car after one segment, their score was zeroed and the set off with another car to see what they could do in 3 segments.   Lerkio were comfortably quicker than anybody else with their second car, had they started with that one they would have have been well placed to win by maybe 40 laps, but they didn’t so they came 7th.   Simon and Ali only decided to race at the last minute, so didn’t check the brush gear wear on the well used Falcon before the start.    Fortunately a motor change doesn’t take too long with a Genesis, so they had a relatively quick pit stop.

2018

We agreed the first two round would be at North London on 21st January and at Netley on 18 February.  I’m in contact with other clubs about their  rounds and should have some more answers soon.

The rules are unchanged for next year, although we’ll probably have to come up with a new name for Falcon Masters now that the Hawk Retro has been introduced.
