Round 3 Bournemouth -  2 April

Round 3 took us to the south coast for another very good day’s racing.

Top qualifying was settled in the second heat, Murray Tucker made his come back to slot racing with 34.97 and Simon Francis took second and top Falcon spot with 33.40.   Strangely most drivers quick times came in the early heats, one exception was Will Stemman who started with retirements in his first two heats.

So the the clubman finals.  Andy Bishop won the Clubman B by a comfortable margin from the closely matched Bill Jenner and Cliff Bicknell.  In the A Simon took an untroubled win from Dave Hamoond, while Chris Stemman narrowly beat Mark Hammond for 3rd.

The overall D final was a rerun of the Clubman B. This time they all went quicker and Bill made Andy work for it in the first half, before a few offs left Bill fending off Cliff for second.
In the C final Mark Hammond had a much better run than in clubman, and this time beat Chris Stemman.
Nick Thrower was comfortably top qualifier for the B, but got off to a bad start which only got worse when he retired.    Mick Metcalfe had his super with the leading bunch early on, but it was the Falcons of Chris Frost and Dave Hammond who took a 1-2 for the home club.
With Murray over a lap and a half clear top qualifier you wouldn’t have expected a close A final.   In fact the other 3 finalists found some speed that had eluded them earlier on, and we had a very close race with many changes of position.  Murray won from Simon Francis (with a Falcon!), Paul Harwood and Will Stemman with less than half a lap covering the whole field.

The A Final

Clubman Falcon A Final

The first and second placed cars from Murray and Simon

Le Mans 32

The team race was a story of closely matched pairs of cars  In the race for first place, Harwood openied up 10 laps lead over GT at half way, GT closed Harwood’s winning margin to 2 laps at the end.  Eces were third just half a lap up on D&M at half way and extended that to over 3 laps at the end.   Luton were the leading Falcon runner in a somewhat isolated 5th place.  Church Farm and Norfolk were quite close throughout, both turning in their fastest segments at the end, Church Farm taking 6th place by just one lap.

Look forward to seeing you all at the Nats or UK Slot Festival, and the next Southern 32 round at Coulsdon on 21st May.
